Frequently Asked Questions

Standard modular brick size in India is 190×90×90mm (L×W×H). With 10mm mortar joints, the nominal size becomes 200×100×100mm. Older "traditional" bricks were 230×115×75mm. Some regions use different sizes — always confirm with your supplier.
4.5" (half brick / 115mm): partition walls, compound walls, non-load-bearing. 9" (one brick / 230mm): main walls, load-bearing walls. 13.5" (one and half brick): heavily loaded walls, basement walls. 18" (two brick): rarely used, very heavily loaded or external retaining walls.
Standard mortar mix for brickwork in India is 1:6 (cement:sand) for interior walls and 1:4 for exterior/wet areas. For M15 grade concrete block work, use 1:5. Avoid making mortar too wet — consistency should be like soft butter (drops off a trowel but doesn't run). Too wet mortar weakens the joint.
For 9" (full brick) wall: approximately 9–10 bricks per sq ft of wall area. For 4.5" (half brick) wall: approximately 4.5–5 bricks per sq ft. These numbers include mortar joints. A typical 9" brick wall for a standard room (say 100 sq ft of wall area) needs about 950–1000 bricks including wastage.
