Frequently Asked Questions
A percentage is a number expressed as a fraction of 100. For example, 25% means 25 out of every 100. It is used to compare proportions, calculate discounts, interest, tax, and more.
Percentage increase = ((New Value − Original Value) ÷ Original Value) × 100. For example, if a price goes from ₹100 to ₹130, the increase is 30%.
Percentage is relative to a base value, while percentage points are an absolute difference between two percentages. If interest rises from 5% to 8%, it rose by 3 percentage points (or 60% relatively).
To find original value before a percentage was applied: Original = Final ÷ (1 + Rate/100) for an increase, or Final ÷ (1 − Rate/100) for a decrease.
Discount % = ((Original Price − Sale Price) ÷ Original Price) × 100. For example, ₹800 item sold at ₹600: discount = (200 ÷ 800) × 100 = 25%.
