Frequently Asked Questions — Date & Time

How do I calculate the number of days between two dates?
Subtract the start date from the end date in milliseconds and divide by 86,400,000 (milliseconds per day). In JavaScript: Math.round((endDate - startDate) / 86400000). In Excel: =DATEDIF(start, end, "D") or simply =end-start (both cells formatted as Date).
What is the difference between IST and UTC?
IST (Indian Standard Time) = UTC+5:30. India is 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of UTC. India does not observe Daylight Saving Time, so this offset is constant year-round. UTC+5:30 means when it is 00:00 UTC, it is 05:30 IST.
How many working days are in a year in India?
Approximately 245–250 working days per year in India: 365 days − 104 weekend days (52 Saturdays + 52 Sundays) − 14–16 national holidays falling on weekdays = ~245–250. This varies as some holidays fall on weekends. Use the Working Days Calculator for an exact count for any date range.
What is Daylight Saving Time (DST)?
DST is the practice of setting clocks 1 hour forward in spring and back in autumn to extend evening daylight. Used in the USA (March–November), UK/Europe (March–October), and most of the Americas and Europe. Countries that do NOT observe DST include India, UAE, Japan, China, and most of Asia and Africa.
How do I add business days to a date?
Use the "Add/Subtract Days" tab in our Date Difference Calculator. It tells you the result date, day of week, and whether it falls on a working day. In Excel: =WORKDAY(start_date, days, [holidays]) adds exactly N business days (skipping weekends). Add a holidays range to also skip public holidays.
