Frequently Asked Questions

Find the Least Common Multiple (LCM) of the denominators. Convert each fraction so they share this common denominator. Then add the numerators. Example: 1/3 + 1/4 → LCM(3,4)=12 → 4/12 + 3/12 = 7/12.
Multiply the numerators together and the denominators together. Then simplify. Example: 2/3 × 3/4 = (2×3)/(3×4) = 6/12 = 1/2. Shortcut: cross-cancel before multiplying — 2/3 × 3/4 → cancel the 3s → 2/4 = 1/2.
To divide by a fraction, multiply by its reciprocal (flip the second fraction). Example: 3/4 ÷ 2/5 = 3/4 × 5/2 = 15/8 = 1 7/8. Remember: "Keep, Change, Flip" — keep the first fraction, change division to multiplication, flip the second fraction.
